Water, Sanitation, & Resilience

Transforming communities by securing access to safe, clean water and integrating water-smart systems for sustainable development and food security.

Three-Year Program Objectives

15,000+

People with Safe Water Access

Through new boreholes and upgraded WASH points.

Agricultural Clusters Empowered

By installing efficient irrigation systems (drip/treadle).

80%

Reduction in Waterborne Disease

Measured in target communities achieving ODF status.

This integrated WASH-WSA strategy is designed for maximum sustainability. By training local Borehole Mechanics and establishing Water & Sanitation Committees (WSCs), VISO ensures that the infrastructure remains functional long after the project handover.

Four Pillars of Water Resilience

1. Water Infrastructure & Capacity

Drilling & Borehole Management

  • Hydrogeological site assessments.
  • Solar-powered borehole drilling & installation.
  • Training of local Borehole Mechanics for sustainability.
  • Water quality testing and management.

2. Health and Community Hygiene

Sanitation & Behaviour Change

  • Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) to achieve ODF status.
  • Construction of accessible school WASH facilities.
  • Mass hygiene awareness campaigns (handwashing, safe storage).
  • Distribution of water purification kits.

3. Productive Water Use

Water-Smart Agriculture (WSA)

  • Installation of low-cost **drip irrigation systems**.
  • Training in efficient water management techniques.
  • Introduction of drought-resistant and high-value crops.
  • Linking water access to economic empowerment for women.

4. Governance and Ownership

Sustainability & Monitoring

  • Formation of Water and Sanitation Committees (WSCs).
  • Training in tariff collection and fund management.
  • Establishing official links with district water offices.
  • Robust, outcome-focused Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E).
