- Accountability
- The principle that institutions and individuals are responsible for their decisions and actions to the people they affect, ensuring transparency and redress mechanisms.
- Blue Economy
- The sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs while preserving the health of ocean ecosystems. Relevant to sustainable practices around Lake Victoria.
- Building Blocks
- The core strategic components of VISO-UG's operational framework, encompassing programs such as Education, Peacebuilding, and Livelihoods.
- Capacity Development
- The process by which individuals, organizations, and societies obtain, strengthen, and maintain the capabilities to set and achieve their own development objectives over time.
- Conflict Resolution
- Methods and processes involved in facilitating the peaceful ending of conflict and retribution, often involving negotiation, mediation, and dialogue.
- Developmental Aid
- Financial or technical assistance given by governments, organizations, or NGOs to support the economic, environmental, social, and political development of developing countries.
- Early Warning System (EWS)
- A mechanism for systematic monitoring, forecasting, and disseminating timely and meaningful information to enable individuals, communities, and governments to prepare for and respond effectively to impending hazards.
- Peacebuilding
- A set of activities aimed at reducing the risk of lapsing or relapsing into conflict by strengthening national capacities for conflict management, and laying the foundations for sustainable peace and development.
- Sustainable Livelihoods
- The capability of individuals and communities to cope with and recover from stresses and shocks, maintain or enhance their assets and capabilities, and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities.
